Hi Friends!

I'm still alive!

Life has almost swallowed me whole but not quite. We have been such busy bees these past few weeks.

Snow is still eluding us here in the great north. I am quite anxious for it to arrive. We usually have ice on the lakes and some ground cover by now but I am thankful for the beautiful and extended Fall season that we have had. These pics are about a month ago but I loved this outfit so much I had to share. I can't wait to wear this dress on a romantic beach stroll after a fantastic dinner date with my love. HaHa! A girl can dream right! :)

I am planning on doing my first vlog soon for a fantastic product review that I love so much I don't think that I can adequately express how awesome it is through text... I need to talk to you! If there are any burning question you have for me I'd love to answer those on the video as well! Send your questions my way!

*Living in the same town my entire 31 years of existence has allowed me to visit this exact fair every year of my life. This show has been a yearly tradition... The skit is the exact same as 31 years ago but that is what makes it sooooo much better for me. I could recite it with the lumberjacks! It is also a family owned show and so I have seen some of the same lumberjacks come back year after year.

and of course no fair would be complete with the Ferris Wheel!

I wore this little number the other day to church. This was my intro into Autumn. I really love summer but the first time I get to slip back into my boots it feels home. I have recently jumped on the Pinterest train (LOVE IT...soooo addicting!) and I've noticed that boots and fall seem to be "my style" I am drawn to the comfy chic look. Pinterest has also helped me to realize I am a type A personality trapped in another body...HA! I seem to bookmark ALOT of built in organizational items for my "dream home". Funny how I'm not that organized in real life! A girl's gotta have goals right?!!???

Hello my name is Danielle and I'm an Instagramaholic.....

These sweet little squares or instas' as I like to call them have integrated themselves into my everyday life and I LOVE it! They have become a way for me to record and remember the "grace moments" in my life. When I started taking all of these pictures I was a little bummed about not being able to have an easy way to display them. They are somehow different than that of a regular photo, they have a certain raw quality to them. Photos are staged and posed or very thought through in most cases but these Instas' are fly by the seat of your pants photos and I enjoy the reality and honesty in the small everyday moments they capture.

ENTER Postalpix: Browsing blogs the other day I found this link to Postalpix. It is yet another free app to download that allows you to order pictures directly from your phone. It is sooooo easy and the 4x4 squares are incredibly reasonably priced! I have ordered twice now. They offer two sizes in the squares, 4x4 and 5x5. They will also put you square on a thin piece of aluminum for around $8.00 and it can be a treasured magnet. I'm thinking Christmas presents for the grandparents!!! A few more sizes are available in standard sizes. The price of the 4x4 is so reasonable that I don't mind ordering every couple weeks, I believe I just ordered 13 prints last night and with the whopping $.94 shipping charge it came to less then $5! Money well spent!!!

I have our pictures displayed on one of those "word statues"on top of our TV cabinet in the main room. I have seen them come in many phrases, and they seem to be an item commonly sold. It has tiny clips on the back so it was a quick and easy way to display them, plus it's easy to change it up with newer instas'.

Good Friends, Old Friends, Good Eats, Good Times.....

Cheers to good food and great company!

Going back to our mini vacay to Washington, I was able to squeeze in an afternoon with my "lifetime" bestie! We have known each other 20 plus years!!! It is one of those friendships in my life that nothing will ever be able separate. We were very best friends throughout high school, we laughed together, cried together, stood by each other and really understood each other. I can honestly say that apart from my husband there is nobody that I have ever let into my heart more than this girl. I miss her like crazy and though life has taken us to completely different realms of life, (she lives in Seattle as partner and co-owner of her own law firm, unmarried with no children, and I living in a small town as a SAHM of three kids) she still remains one of my best friends. She actually moved away our senior year in high school, and we have been able to see each other in person at least every couple years.

It was a beautiful day in Seattle, one of the first they'd had all year I was told so when she asked for requests on what to do I said, "eat, enjoy the sun, and spend time with you." She nailed it perfectly and took us to this oceanfront restaurant. It also happened to be Happy Hour and all of the appetizers were only $5 each. We decided on a smorgasbord picnic and pretty much ordered the entire menu! This last pic (yes I know I didn't get the depth of field right for all of you photogs out there but you get the picture) was my absolute favorite, they were an Ahi Nacho and they were so tasty we actually put in an order for another plate! YUM! Taila's beau met us there and upon leaving we documented all being together.

Afterwards we decided that ice cream was in order so Adam (Taila's beau) suggested a frozen yogurt place that was actually a gigantic buffet! I LOVED IT! I so wish we had one of these places in Alaska! You payed by the pound and it was actually pretty cheap comparably to going out for ice cream here. I realize this is probably old news for all of you who live "down in the states" but humor me here!

I wore this yesterday to a coffee date with an old friend. It's amazing to me that when in a comfortable conversation hours can pass by before you know it. We spent 2.5 hours in the Target Starbucks! It doesn't even matter what you're talking about, it could be the most mundane subject but with a great friend it is always enjoyable. As I get older it is more evident that great and true friends are precious and hard to come by. I will cherish the friends I have and wait patiently for the next ones.

I wore this ensemble the other day to my eldest daughter's meet and greet at school, and then around town to run a few errands for Jeremy's hunting trip, then finished the evening off with a yummy mexican family dinner at our favorite restaurant in town. Gotta love free chips and salsa! Looking at these photos I probably could have spruced it up with a belt but I was really loving the comfort factor on that particular day. I can also see the atrocious amount of wrinkles but considering I don't even own an iron a few wrinkles ever so often isn't so bad. I loathe ironing, UGH, spare me the nightmares now! Not exactly sure why, but I think it may have something to do with an emergency trip to Nordstom minutes before the company (formal) Christmas party, parking illegally in the handicapped spot, (I still feel guilty)sprinting into the store in a formal gown and buying a new shirt for dear husband because his shirt, which matched perfectly with my dress I might add, now had GIANT hole and melted spot the exact shape of an iron...It wasn't pretty. I stick to the tried and true wet washcloth in the dryer trick these days. If that doesn't work, Jeremy's grandma lives 2 miles from my house and she will ~~gladly~~ iron for me. (spoiled alert!)

I bought this dress along with another skirt from Tania over at What Would a Nerd Wear. She cleaned out her closet in preparation for her move to Washington DC and I was the lucky recipient of two items! I absolutely adore this dress. The perfect mix of dressed up and down!

Instagram Link Party!

Happy Monday lovelies!
I have already expressed my love and/or obsession for Instagram so when I stumbled upon an Instagram link up party over at a {little} dash of ash I immediately wanted to hop on the bandwagon!

This is me hoppin'~

I actually didn't take to many instas' (my own little made up word for those adorable little squares of beautifully edited goodness) this week but the ones I did take all reflected the last days of summer. Summer comes and goes extra fast here in Alaska. The leaves are already starting to turn and fall, there is fresh snow on the mountaintops and a certain nip in the air. I am ready for fall (read:brown leather boots) and the (gasp should I say it) holiday season to arrive, but we are trying to savor the last bits of summer before it's gone....

The big iron...Jeremy had an odd job to finish up here in town, while it was a bummer to take our weekend away, it sure was fun to be able to visit him on the job and help him run equipment. Landin especially loved it!

The kids new source of great fun while over at Nana and Papa's house is to head to the train tracks that are nearby and greet the passenger trains full of tourists with enthusiastic waves and smiles. This particular night we even got a WAHOO from a nice gentleman.

One of my favorite things to drink on a sunny day is white wine with frozen fruit floating around in it. I am not sure what I enjoy most, the fact that it looks so festive and summery, the wine, or the fruit afterward. My mom has this adorable little pot of delicate flowers on the outside table.

If this doesn't look like summer to me, I don't know what does!

Hatchers Pass is one of my favorite scenic drives. I am so blessed to have this beautiful place just miles from our house. The Little Susitna river runs down through this mountain and it is breathtaking. I am quite partial to this area because Jeremy proposed to me on one of those rocks in the middle of the river. It was perfect. I re-live the memories each time I take the drive.

These were the cupcakes that I made for Lainie's ninth birthday. Happy little sunshine's to match her cheerful and upbeat personality!

With the end of summer brings hunting season, and with hunting season a lot of flying is to be done. I love how the black and white came out. I took this as Jeremy and his hunting partner were loading up our plane to spend an extended weekend in the wilderness.

Just a quick drop in, I am basking in the glow of an empty house this weekend!

Jeremy is of sheep hunting for the extended weekend and the kids are over at Nana and Papa's house. That means that I may or may not have:

stayed in my pajamas all day

watched Jane Erye in bed while eating a panini and doritos at 10:00pm

taken walks to the coffee shop

finished and organized blog posts

bought my first pair of jeggings...idk whether to be excited or scared

read my bible, studied, prayed and spent uninterrupted time with Jesus

cleaned the garage

sipped wine and nibbled cheese...in bed

took a nap

started a new book, The Help

cleaned out my Google Reader

contemplated taking out the camera and trying tripod/self-timer shots

reflected on how much I love my family

It has been a lovely and much needed stay cation for myself.

Mini Vacay! Washougal WA. AMA PRO National MX

***Warning*** Seriously heavy picture post.

A few weeks back Jeremy came home and nonchalantly mentioned that a friend had called and was headed down to Washougal, Washington the next weekend to watch his son race at the Professional AMA Motorcross races. We have known this friend for years and watched him and his wife support, train and follow Ben and his dream of becoming a Pro Rider for the past 19 years. After racing as a privateer for a couple years, Ben recently was asked to ride for the MotoConcepts team! YaY! Go Ben! After mentioning that Gene was headed down Jeremy also added, "We should go and take Landin!" Me, being the first to jump on travel eagerly said "I'll book it!" And it was so...

It was a whirlwind of a trip. We left on Wednesday night and arrived in Seattle at 2:00am. I figured it would be easiest to just grab a cheap hotel across the street, beings that we would only be there for a few hours until we could rent the car and begin the three hour drive down to Washougal. WRONG! BAD CHOICE!Note to self, It is always worth the extra $30 when talking cheap hotels. Let's just say that Jeremy did not undress and did not sleep under the covers that night...EWWWW! We quickly showered,took the shuttle to the car rental place, grabbed a starbucks and headed out. I love road trips, there is just something about the road, snacks, long conversations, tunes from the radio, and the anticipation of your destination! We made it to Washougal and much to our dismay it was POURING rain. I had been checking the weather all week and my little iphone weather forecast said SUN, SUN, and more SUN! I of course am gullible and believed every bit of it which resulted in the decision to only pack shorts and t-shirts. No coats or even sweatshirts! I never claimed to be the smartest gal! We stopped to say our Hello's to Ben and Gene and then promptly found the nearest REI for an emergency shopping trip. We found our way into Portand but only Thanks to my mother in law and the GPS system she loaned us. Holy Navigation!! That little thing saved our bacon more times than I could count! I vow never to travel without one again!

After getting properly dressed we went out to Portland International Raceway for a small local race that Ben was racing in. It was so much fun. The last moto's were raced under the lights! Yummy corn dogs and snuggles from my two best boys in the stands made for a beautiful night! I didn't take many pics due to my camera battery being dead but here is a link to a site that posted lots of photos of the night. We left high and giddy on excitement, adrenaline, and the sweet aroma of two strokes.

The next day we slept in a bit, and then made our way to the race track. When we got there the amateur races were going on and we were able to walk the track with Ben and Gene. The tack and grounds were beautiful. The trees were massive and to actually see a large outdoor MX track was super fun! Landin was in awe....as was his Dad...and Mom!

The sun that I was anticipating finally did come out and it was HOT! We spent the day at the track and checking out all of the giant Team Semi trucks. Later that night we went to an autograph signing session in Portland. The venue for it was HUGE, I've never seen a dealership that big! They had gotten a large number of the teams together including Villapoto and Dunge! Landin had a blast and is now the proud owner of a very autographed hat.

The next morning we woke up bright and early, (grabbed a Starbucks...of course, DUH!) and headed to the track only to be met with INSANE traffic. We arrived just as Ben was lining up for his first practice moto.

We were also fortunate enough to be able to meet up with the Carlson' crew! It was so nice to be able to see them all. Jeremy's sister and her family moved away about a year ago so it was an added bonus to the trip! There were SOOOO many people there and it was an ~~insanely hot~~ beautiful day out. Tami and Jason have 5 kiddos and we had Landin so it made for careful navigation through the crowds but they were all so awesome, we had no problems.

We wandered around, ate corn dogs and cotton candy, got completely filthy, cheered Ben on, and Had a blast! We have decided that this need to be an annual event. I'm thinking a super cross is in order for next year...Las Vegas or Anaheim...Hmmmmm.

Landin almost melted by the end of the day but he bounced back quickly, it was nothing that an ice cold drink, food, (remember the cotton candy earlier) and some baby wipes couldn't take care of. This pic cracks me up!

After the races we wandered back into the pit area and was able to take some pictures with (most importantly according to Landin) Ben, and Chad Reed.

Hiya All!

Wowsers? Where does a week go? This last week has flown by, and I'm sure this one will too so I am trying to be a good little blogger girl and get post pre-scheduled. Concept?!? This is tough, it actually takes planning, forethought, and eliminates procrastination.... doesn't fit my profile but we are turning over new leaves over here in the Pepperd household......maybe, we shall see if I can actually pull it off.

Anywhoo, we are busy getting ready for school to start next week, add in two birthdays this weekend and you have a FULL schedule folks! The weather up here in Alaska is everywhere right now, remember that when I am wearing cutoff shorts and sandals next week. It has been pouring rain here and very autumn like, hence the reunion with my beloved Frye boots yesterday. Not gonna lie, it felt good to slip those babies on. I'm pretty sure I even spotted the first snow on the mountains. (AKA: Termination Dust) The sun will make a few curtain calls on this summer though and I will be dressed accordingly!

An afternoon in Instagram.

Mondays are usually catch up day in this house. We generally don't make plans for Mondays besides put away weekend stuff and spruce up and clean the house a little more thoroughly than other days. The kids were working especially hard this particular Monday and so we decided we needed an intermission to all of our hard work. After our finger food picnic lunch and a bit of arm wrestling we embarked on a walk....

This is what I look like in full on stay at home chore mode...glamorous isn't it. Man, I love this kid, looking at this photo, I can hear his giggles and grunts. So sweet, thank you Jesus for the gift of laughter.

It started out with bike tricks that didn't end so well..... he wasn't hurt, mostly mad that I had captured it on film and that Lexi had "popped big on his pegs" and "flew him off his bike".

Made our way to the coffee shop. A walk isn't a walk without a stop for ice cream or coffee...is it?

Sweet shot of my babes... They are all laughing because Landin just randomly hollered over his shoulder to the stranger walking by that his mom was crazy! He then added it was because I liked to take to many pictures of them. I guess I do, but I keep telling them they will appreciate it someday. How's that for old lady mom talk.... HA!

On to the BMX dirt track where we all cheered Landin on. He would stop for the occasional pit stop and get refueled with water and fruit snacks.

Little dirty hands...could anything look much sweeter? We found a small roadside wild strawberry patch, so we stopped to harvest some for dinner.

We had such a fun time, made priceless memories and the thing is that it only took an hour out of our day. I am reminded not to get caught up in my daily to-do list and focus some energy on what is most important and what makes me most fulfilled. The sights and sounds of three happy kids is a very fulfilling feeling.

Obsessed with Instagram.

I will admit that in the course of a week (give or take) I have become completely obsessed and in love with Instagram and the beautiful pictures it allows me to create in an instant. Indiana over at Adored Austin jokingly tweeted last night that someday we will all need a program to UN-instagram our pictures! HAHA! I think she may be right.

Instagram has inspired me to not only THINK about the Grace Moments in my life but CAPTURE them. Jen over at jenloveskev shared this link the other day. I can't wait to order some up for myself. Iwant to create a board of some sort like she did to serve as a reminder of ALL the moments of my life and how grateful I am for each one.

Savin' my bacon!

In celebration of the weekend, I thought it'd be fun to share a few things that Saved my Bacon this week. Link up if you'd like.... we all need Bacon Savers!

It is safe to say that if I only was allowed to buy one brand of T-shirt the rest of my life I would be sufficiently pleased with J-Crew. I wouldn't even whine about it. They never lose their shape, are the perfect weight, beautiful colors, all styles, and just all around.....well.... PERFECT. Plus as an added bonus, you can usually find them on SALE!

I'll be honest, I've uses alot of face creams in my life, I've spent ALOT of money on face creams trying to find the right one. Well ladies, I won the lottery with this one, after getting bummed out with all the fancy schmancy ones, I sort of went on strike, went to Target and just randomly chose some off the shelf. I am a good picker.... These are fantastic, my face has never felt better and I hardly have breakouts anymore. The day cream also has an 18spf so ~~double~~ ~~triple~~ I lost count bonus for me.

This one I realize will gross some of you out but I'll say it anyways. I am having a love affair with beets, not even pickled ones, just plain beets.....from a can. Ok yeah it sounds bad when it's written like that. Oh well, It makes a quick low fat, healthy, tasty lunch if you add a piece of cheese and a few wheat thins to it. YUM!

Lastly, I am starting every morning with the Proverbs 31 Woman devotions. They are wonderful and emailed right to me every week day! I don't even have to turn on my computer, I can sit in bed with my coffee and read it straight off of my phone. Starting my morning studying His word makes the day seem so much brighter. Happy 13th Anniversary to Us!!!

Today marks my husband and I's 13th Anniversary. Lucky number 13...hehe. I thought in honor of our day share a little of our story.

This story begins WAAAAY back in sixth grade. Mr. Martinelli's class, the first day of Middle school (or as others call it junior high) and I found my assigned seating in the center of the two desk wide rows in the very back of the classroom. I looked curiously at who would be sitting next to me for the year. Jeremy Pepperd... huh, never heard of him, I hope he doesn't stink or something weird like that. (Don't judge, it was sixth grade) I can honestly say that it was a done deal for me after that year. Game Over, I was off the market. I fell in love (or serious like) in sixth grade! Which literally scares the ju-ju's out of me seeing that my daughter just completed sixth grade and the other will be there in two years. ACK!

We shamelessly, and I mean shamelessly flirted our way through middle school and the first couple years of high school. I was a complete dork and began each school year with the same questions... How many classes will I have with him? (I even overheard him one spring talk about which classes he would be taking the next fall and signed up for those classes too....only to have it backfire on me, not only did I not get into his period but It was an AP class and he is an uber smarty pants...I am not, it did not end well.) Where will his locker be? Did he get a girlfriend over the summer? Our sophomore year I eagerly awaited seeing him again after summer break only to be heartbroken, he wasn't there. Two weeks went by...no Jeremy. I was crushed! Then out of the blue he showed up and had a locker RIGHT NEXT TO MINE!!! Wow...patience really does pay off! He had taken an extended summer break and enrolled late...he could do that, he's a smarty pants remember. I could not believe my luck, every day, every hour I would be able to see him, talk to him and WEAR HIM DOWN!!! We had a great time teasing, flirting and becoming best friends that year.

Jeremy was to busy living life to have a girlfriend *bonus for me* and I barely dated so when my alarm woke me up (serious psycho weirdness here. I already know...it's ok to judge :)) one morning that summer to some random country song, the lyrics being "I shoulda asked him sooner, now he's gone" or something to that effect, I panicked. (I know...psycho!) I called him that day completely random and asked him to go to the movies with me. Phenomenon with John Travolta to be exact. Don't ask me what it was about I have no idea! He said yes and even asked if we could go to the later movie so that he could take me in his Mom's car, he didn't want me to ride in his beater of a truck...AWWW! He was a gentleman, and everything a girl dreams of . We went to coffee after the movie and that marked our "dating" relationship. We continued very, very, very slowly until November of that year when we finally made things official. We were "going out"!

We were pretty much inseparable after that, I fell in love with him more and more each day. We graduated high school and got married that summer. Three kids, countless adventures, good times, bad times, tears, laughter, sweet nothings, and priceless memories, we find ourselves living life as best friends, lovers, partners, and striving to be one each day. I could not have chosen a better man to brave this world with. Thank you Jeremy for letting me wear you down all those years ago. I would not be half the person I am today with out you. The life and happiness that you have graciously provided me with is beyond my wildest dreams. I am honored and humbled to be your wife. I LOVE YOU! XOXOXOX Thank You.

Can we stop a minute and admire these shoes.....

Minute over. I am completely head over heels in love with these shoes. They are uber comfy...comfy enough to wear them while traveling this past weekend to AND from my destination. (READ: I took a chance on them on the way down and they proved themselves worthy to make the return flight on my feet as well!) I find them also ridiculously cute,they go with everything, dressy, casual, AND CHEAP!!! I bought them at Target... They come in two colors and I believe they are now on sale... RUN quick... go treat yourself!

My 13th wedding anniversary is tomorrow! My husband and I don't have any plans this weekend. We are thinking we may have a little staycation. We have been on the go so much these past few months we thought it may be nice just to slow down and simply enjoy each other. I am envisioning FNL (last season...sad face) in bed, walk to the coffee shop, cooking dinner together, fly-out picnic by the glacier... It sounds heavenly.

Do you have any suggestions for staycations? We've never taken one. I think we will have three days!!! YAY!!!

I cannot believe the end of summer is in sight. It seems as though it was never here, partly because our weather has been less than stellar, but also time has just flown by. I am realizing that the saying I always was told about time seeming faster the older I get may have a lot of truth to it. I am loving the age of my children now and we are completely mobile and free to go whenever, what I fear is that we are getting swooped up by the rapid pace of life. I am diligently trying not so much to "slow down" because that is us, we are on the go and loving it. The problem lies in not seeing , recognizing , and absorbing all of the moments in life that go unnoticed. The little things in life that really make it great. The things that make you involuntarily smile. The things you really appreciate but wouldn't notice them until they are gone. I recently was introduced to the term "Grace Moments". This phrase says it all!!! Each morning I want to wake up fully aware of the moments in my life that are good, and meditate on those instead of my to-do list, problems, or stresses. So here's to finding those moments....

Hey all, remember me? Here I am again popping up again. Life has sort of swallowed me whole and spit me out this past six months or so. It has been interesting to say the least and now I am slowed down enough to begin to reflect on it...and me. So here I am, reflecting, photographing, dressing up, cooking, loving, adventuring, and what ever else I decide to type on the pages. Today I am thankful:

Good Morning snuggles with my little man. I love how lets me lay on his chest and he wraps his little arms around me like he has seen his Daddy do.
The commentary in my new bible. I bought myself a Life Application Study Bible, it really breaks the verses down into life today. Incredibly convicting. :)
My super duper HOT, but also hard working husband. I miss him terribly these days (working 12-14hr days) but am thankful for his job and his dedication to providing for our family.

Last North Carolina post....

I wore this traveling home from my sweet little paradise... I feel so grateful to all the people in my life. My existence on this planet would not be near as full if I didn't have the love, caring and support that I receive from my husband, family, and friends. Thank you all so much. I am behind a bit on this blog and so as I write this I have been home a good two weeks. When I think back on the entire experience of this trip, from my sweet groom gifting it to me as an extra special gift in celebration of my three decades on earth to my husbands scary surgery, and then the trip itself, I sit here and am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love my family and I received at that time. Friends from all parts of our life helped out in so many ways ranging from the concerned phone call from friends, sweet blogger comments from all of you, awesome guest post bloggers, prayers from many, and of course the hands on care that many of my family members selflessly gave to my husband after surgery.

Thank you all for the gift of YOU...I am so blessed.

Another North Carolina post....

I bought this top while down there, I loved the blousy feel to it and for some reason these days I am over the top for stripes! The jeans were on loan at the time from Liz but she graciously gifted them to me before I left. What a gal! The shoes were also hers... I loved the wedge heel and the gray bronzy look they had. We went out for dinner at the Shuckin Shack. We had so much fun Shuckin oysters and shrimp. The menu even offered deep fried macaroni and cheese, we ordered some but the kitchen got goofed up and we never got any. SAD. I learned my new fact of the day there.... How many oysters in a peck? Do you know?

How much fun would this thing be?!? Five seats all with pedals! I wanted to rent one so bad...to bad they were closed.

I still have a few sets from North Carolina as well as an adventure I had while there, but I was feeling like my blog needed some boots! I am Danielle and I am a bootaholic! I love my boots..all of them. I like looking at them, petting them, wearing them and taking pictures of them....yes I know, I have a problem. I just feel so dang confident and comfortable in my boots! I suppose it's a good thing that I live in a state that is boot weather more often than not. Wow, that was a lot of the word boot.

We still have yet to be blessed with white flakes falling from the sky. All the leaves are gone and most things are brown right now but the sun has been shining gloriously for days now and the air is a nice crisp 40 degrees. I am loving it...my love may also be procrastination induced because I still have yet to put away all of my outdoor lawn items...EEEK!

I had such a lovely time in North Carolina. My only schedule was to have no schedule. My friends house was the absolute perfect place to have my own special little retreat. She and her husband built a magnificently beautiful home a mere 200 steps from the beach. Three stories of comfort and each bedroom had it's own tv and bathroom. I had my own space to sit quietly and block out the world if I wanted too! not to mention an significant supply of surf boards, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach cruiser bikes and most importantly great company and LOTS of laughs! Thanks Liz and Mark...Loves! It was my own little slice of heaven. The beach itself was gorgeous, clean, abundant in seashells, and had it's own quaint little personality with families and fisherman scattered about. I loved every minute of it. The weather was absolute perfection, not to hot, not to cold, with the perfect gentle sea breeze. You could sit out there for hours completely comfortable. ALOT of sun was soaked into my skin while there. The neighborhood was full of southern charm and character, from the homes, to the people. One of my favorite moments was when Liz (North Carolina BFF, or as we refer to her..."my sista from anotha mutha") needed a blender to whip up some yummy peachy goodness, she leaned over the balcony to Billy..."can I borrow your blender...? Just have Gino bring it over...!" He did, and stayed long enough for some peachy goodness! HOW FUN!!! I love things like that...people just loving people and enjoying life. This neighborhood personified that. There was even older gentlemen with golf cart transportation giving other people rides from one house to another...it was adorable. We had multiple invitations to come over for a cocktail... and lots of southern hospitality! It was just so fun.

The evening I wore this outfit, we were supposed to go to a "pig picken" which I gathered was a potluck neighborhood party centered around roasting a whole pig! I wore the boots and the last picture was my attempt at a ho-down...We were going to a pig-picken after all! We actually ended up not going, I was a bit to entranced in the Alabama-South Carolina college football game. We won't go there...if you follow college football you know what I mean, and yes, if you must know, I was SCREAMING at the tv and am bitter about it....ugh.

Last thing... The location of this shoot is up on the roof. Alot of the homes in the neighborhood had what they called rooftop decks. From this vantage point you can see the ocean for miles unobstructed and the entire town. It was a pretty spectacular view especially at sunset....plus it makes for fun pics!

Howdy All!

I am back from my week in Paradise! My husband is well on his way to being recovered and I have been thrown right back into the swing of things here back home. I am feeling very refreshed and ready to take on whatever comes my way! A nice leisurely sunset walk down the beach. We had just gotten to NC and this was the first time we had been down to the water. We walked up the pier and chatted up all the local fisherman. It was pretty hilarious, these "alaskan women are down here in short sleeves and shorts and the local fisherman on the pier were dressed in down coats, and beanie hats! HA!! It was at least 65 degrees!!!! Thats not a bad day of summer up north!

First off I would like to Thank You all profusely for the outpouring concern and kindness you have shown for my family, my husband and myself. It is greatly appreciated and treasured. I am in such awe with the blogging community. You guys are the best! Thank you.

a little update...

My husbands surgery itself went well, his recovery....not so much. We ended up staying in the hospital overnight and the entire next day. I wrestled with the decision whether to postpone my trip or not. My husband in his drugged stooper said absolutely not! It was not an option for me to stay in his opinion. He gifted me this trip as a token of his love and appreciation for all I do and nothing was going to get in the way of me having a "girls only" beach reunion! Soooo... I was able to "text" pack on with my mom, discharge my husband from the hospital, drive home, tuck him into bed, grab my bag, and jet off to the airport with 30 minutes of getting home. Crazy... I know.......

Thankfully we have an AMAZING support group of friends and family that were also encouraging me to head on out due to the fact my husband was going to be well cared for by all of them. My dear,dear friend Heidi has been selflessly by his side, administering medication, taking him to check ups, and all around making sure his recovery is a comfortable and speedy as possible. Thank You Heidi , I love you! My wonderful Mother in law has kept the kiddos and took on all of the school schedules, basketball practices, and the daily wear and tear of three kids! Thank you....I love you too! There are many more of you family and friends whom have graciously given their time and energy to my family through this. I spoke to my husband tonight and he is overwhelmed by the outpouring of kindness shown through, calls, texts, visits, prayers, and meals. Thank you all so much....This truly has been a touching experience.

In the meantime I get to sit on this deck in the sunshine all day....

Hey JMS readers! I'm Desiree from Distinctly Desiree and I'm so honored that Danielle has asked me to do a guest post for her while she jets off to see her BFF.

I've seen this Target lace skirt making its rounds in the personal style blogging world and I drool over it ever single time I see it. I heard someone mention that it was now reduced to 30% off, I decided to bite the bullet and buy it. I was floored when I got to Target and found out that it was 50% off! I had to talk myself out of buying it in every color. I would love to pair it with a denim jacket, colored tights and black leather booties but since Texas is relentless with its heat, I had to keep it on the airier side. I love the contrast of the lace skirt and floral top with the menswear-inspired oxfords, I think they make it just casual enough for a day of classes. I will definitely be turning to this skirt all Autumn and Winter (and probably Spring and Summer also). I think it might actually be my favorite item that I've purchased for Autumn 2010.

Fall has a way of sneaking up, one day the suns out and you're wearing shorts and sandals and the next day the leaves are changing, a chills in the air and you suddenly have no idea what to wear. But just because the weather's changing, doesn't mean your whole wardrobe needs to too. Taking your summer essentials into fall is easier than you might think. All you need is a couple of extra layers and some creativity! Here's how I take some of my summer staples into the cooler months:

The Maxi Skirt. While maxi skirts are perfect to wear for summer, they are thee winter skirt. You get the chicness of a skirt but with the benefits of coverage. The best way to take a maxi skirt into fall is to add a great jacket. Military, leather, even a blazer would look great. Make sure to pick something whose fit complements the length of the skirt, don't pick anything too long or bulky because all the fabric might overwhelm your body. Cropped, tailored jackets are perfect. Also, to combat those chilly breezes, add tights underneath with some boots or wedges.

The Sundress. I live in dresses during the summer and I don't want to give them up just because of a change in weather. Luckily, adding just a few pieces to a sundress instantly takes you from summer to fall, and adds interest and dimension to your outfit. Trade in your sandals for boots (cowboy, motorcycle, ankle, thigh high-- your choice!) and throw on a leather jacket. I love the juxtaposition of tailored jacket over a flowy feminine dress. Tres chic!

The Gingham Shirt. Of course, it doesn't have to be a gingham shirt, any button-up will work perfectly. Button-up shirts are ideal for layering and create the perfect starting point to a fall outfit. Here I threw a pull over sweater on top of the button-up, not only do I get that extra layer of warmth, but I also add interest to a plain pull-over by pairing it with a patterned shirt. Practical AND stylish, who can argue with that? Throw on some skinny jeans and oxfords and you have a perfect casual fall outfit.

So there's a few ideas on how to tweak your pieces from summer and get them to work for you during the fall. Hopefully it helps you transition a bit easier. If you have any of your own ways of changing up your outfits, I'd love to hear them!

Hello, Just My Style readers! This is JoAnn from Sidewalk Chalk, and I'm so happy to be guest posting for Danielle while she's out. Like D, I'm a big fan of taking my photos outdoors --- there's just so much inspiration to draw from being outside, and sometimes I like wearing things that match my surroundings. It'll be even better in October when the leaves are changing and there will be lots of golden, warm colors everywhere. Here's a snapshot of some items that I'll be interested in wearing this fall -- dark colors, scarves and different patterns. My star dress was perfect for summer's patriotic festivities, but I wanted to transition it to fall. I paired it with my green scarf to bring the color tones down to a darker palette. My scarf is lucky -- my friend picked it up for me while she was in Italy over the summer, and while there her boyfriend proposed to her! I love items with stories surrounding them like that.

Hi there, all you folks up in that area next to the Great White North! I'm so flattered that Danielle asked me to contribute a guest post to her week off. Danielle has been a favorite of mine for a long time. So thank you, Danielle! I hope I make you proud! :)

So I wanted to post an outfit that was really....well...sunny. I know that the days up in Alaska are getting shorter and shorter as we speak, so I thought I'd share some of the sunshine from my neck of the woods. Now, the funny part is that it was a very gray, cloudy, overcast morning when I took these pictures, so we'll have to let the sunshine yellow pants do all the talking.

Every time I take pictures in this location, I think of two of my fave Alaskan bloggers, Delightfully Tacky, and, of course, Danielle, who always take such wonderful pictures in the woods and open spaces. It's easy to forget about open spaces and forests and clear skies when you live in Chicago, like I do, but photoshoots like this can be a nice reminder.

One thing I adore about blogging is the major amounts of inspiration that I get from other bloggers, and the style "chains" that happen as a result. This outfit was a direct result (some may say a direct copy, but I think that's fine) of one of Orchid Grey's recent outfits. I love the combination of bright mustard yellow cords and a funky plaid, and knew I had to try it for myself. I really love the result!

Happy Official Fall!

I thought this would be a nice picture set to welcome Fall into 2010. As you can see Fall is in full swing here in Alaska, we are even waking up to frost on our windshields some mornings. This is absolutely my most favorite time of year. I went to the store yesterday and bought some yummy "fall" candy to put out and pumpkin whoopie pies are definitely on the dessert menu sometime in the near future. YUM!

Yesterday seemed to be the worst day of my slump. This outfit reflects someone who just needed a day off to chill. The doctors appointments have gone from code yellow to code red. We found out that my husband has to go in for some pretty major skull/brain surgery soon. Nothing life threatening but it is still surgery on his skull nonetheless. He has had this bump on his head for as long as I can remember, it has gotten slightly larger through the years and so we decided it needed to come off. What better time to do it than with double coverage insurance right?!? This double coverage thing seems to be more trouble than it's worth!!! I guess we bit off more than we could chew because what we thought would be a simple procedure done by a general surgeon has now turned into a neurosurgeon and reconstruction of his skull....lovely.
On a brighter note, I am loving this Tweeting, you guys crack me up! If we aren't friends yet...Why not?

This is basically a reincarnation of this look, just different pieces. I was running SUPER-MEGA late for church Sunday morning and went to my closet and just started grabbing and dressing all at the same time. I ended up with this. These pictures are also a tad goofy but they can't all be satisfactory.

My fall season has been great and horrible all at the same time and all I can say for the great is strictly my choice of attitude and outlook. I have chosen to be upbeat about everyday. I have chosen to be thankful for all those around me and this life that I live. Other than that I have been pretty run-down. All of these doctor appointments have been kicking my butt. The emotional strain they pose as well as the physical time I have to put into them that limits the amount of time I spend getting my regular day to day obligations done. I have gotten behind, very very behind. Ugh... Not to mention my house seems to be going through the 10 year itch and in two months my vacuum has died, hot water heater boiler was out for two and a half weeks, (yes this means I had no heat OR hot water the entire time) and now my fridge has died. All things combined has pretty much zapped my creativity. I was thinking the other day, I wish I could just take a vitamin to replenish my creativity. Kinda like my iron or vitamin c. HAHA!

I'm not sure how many of you have been to Alaska, probably not to many. Alaska is definitely not LA, Paris, or New York. Fashion is not an utmost priority, most Alaskans are jeans and sweatshirt type of people. I am the only mom who dresses remotely the way i do. My kids are pretty used to it and most of the fellow parents are too. I even get the occasional compliment such as , "you are so fashionable" or the "you always dress so cute" and the ever popular, " you can wear anything." I'd be lying if I said I don't enjoy them, but every once in a while someone can't quite wrap their head around what I am wearing and they call my outfit......RETRO, GRANDMA, HIP- HOPISH in their most smiley face and happiest voice...

I think I may have been having boot withdrawals worse than I thought over the summer. Every morning after reading all of you lovelies I go to my closet with every intention of wearing something else. I try and I try to wear some other form of shoery, (not a word, I know) but they call to me in this alluring voice and I just can't help myself.

Last on the list is Open House for my other daughter. She is also gonna kick some butt later this month at her cross country meet!...:)

Argh...More doctor appointments. As mentioned previously I've been going to alot of doctor appointments lately. Today's was insanely LOOOOONG. I believe we were there for over three hours, and we ended up leaving with a Tony the Tiger cast, even though no broken bones are involved. Cast???.... I KNOW!!! My poor husband has been having pain in his wrist since an ugly snowmachine accident last spring. After many doctors later we found ourselves at a hand surgeon and he decided that my dear husband is just to active and we need to completely immobilize it for six weeks...major bummer! Oh well, we can only hope and pray that it will be good to go for this upcoming race season.

My husband is totally RAD and decided to have a sense of humor about the whole thing and begged the tech for a striped orange and black tiger cast...Nobody can resist my husbands charm ;) and his wish was granted. It is super cool, if I do say. I'll try to post a pic of his grrrrreaaaat cast later today.

Fall is absolutely and completely in the air. I love everything about it, the colors, the smell, the dark evenings, and stars in the sky once again. (Here in AK we have so much daylight in the summer that it really only gets dusk at night.) I miss the stars. The weather here continues to give us sunshine, we are not free from the briskness in the air though, I even woke to frost on my truck this morning. By evening I was freezing my tootsie off but I have to stretch my summer to the absolute max since ours is cut relatively short up here.

Life has been so busy these days and I am worried that this is just my life. With three kids and two of them in school that start and end at different times I feel as if I am running all the time! My housework is never caught up and dinners seem to barely make it to the table. I am need of some major reorganizing and reprioritizing I suppose. I have been thinking on life and the importance of keeping priorities straight lately. What are my priorities? What should they be? I know that God foremost and my husband, children, and family are at the top of my list. I strive each day to make sure these people know they are important and valued by me. This seems to add up to be so much of my day. I've been pondering about where friendships fit in my life. Friendship is hard. I am in the thick of raising kids and all that jazz but I need some interaction, some give and take, accountability, you know? The problem I am finding is that life is BUSY and friendships take time...lots of it. That is why I value and enjoy blogging so much. I appreciate the security in that whatever I am feeling or choose to write, you all are there, reading, and listening, interjecting advice or just a kind word. I appreciate you. Every blog I read I have some sort of kinship or connection with it's author, whether it being they are a mom, lover of vintage, having a bad day, completely inspired by the next girl, or incredibly in love with their other half. I connect with you all on one level or another. Thank You.

Summer finally decided to happen here in Alaska. We had the most gorgeous weather this weekend, when you add the fall colors, you have magic!!! My weekends usually are not conducive to fashion. My family and I will usually be found in the mountains, on a river bank, or camped out on a sand bar. Most likely I am clad in my hiking boots, North Face jacket, some sort of hat to cover the mess on my head, and jeans...
I do however always have my camera with me and I wanted to share a few images from my weekend.

So My day consisted of pretty much nothing except doctors offices yesterday. What an annoying process! Through the course of some changes this past year, our little family has been blessed with double coverage insurance for a few months. WOO-HOO, right! I was totally pumped about this in the beginning, even jokingly wishing that something big but minor and non life threatening would happen to myself of the husband.(spare the kids right?) I wanted to use this double insurance, I imagined in my mind how incredibly satisfying it would be to not only whip out 2 insurance cards at the receptionist desk but to see that infamous doctor bill come back with the words printed at the bottom...You owe this amount...$0.00!!! I jokingly said these things for the first week we had this glorious double coverage... that is until I got a phone call from my husband late one evening after out practicing for his upcoming snowmachine, or snowmobile race for all of you in the rest of the world. We call it a snowmachine up here in the great north, and no I don't mean it makes snow!!! Anyways he called me and said that he had good news and he had bad news....UH_OH. The good news was he was still alive and the bad news was that he thought he may have broken his back!!!! Yeah...joking OVER! I said I wanted minor...non life threatening!!! Funny thing as we were hobbling him into the ER he looked at me and said..."this is your fault". I said" WHAT! How is this my fault!" He replied with a smile on his face," you are the one who wanted to use this double coverage insurance!" HAHA.... quite the jokester. A few hours later, a lot of tests, and a hefty bill that I didn't have to pay any of I might add... He was released with a clean bill of health, just major bumps and bruises and maybe a cracked rib or two, no broken back...THANK YOU LORD! Ok, Ok ... back to why I was in the doctor all day yesterday... being the thrifty bargain mommy that I am, our double coverage ends the end of the month and being the horrible procrastinator I am I waited until now to get all dentist, doctor and whatever else I could think to squish into this last month! Frustrating though because you never walk out of the doctor office being done, we are always referred to another specialist or need another X-ray or something. It seems to be just an on-going process. GRRRR.... I guess it's ok with me as long as we get it all done by the end of the month, and the bottom of the page says, You owe this amount...$0.00!!! HAHA!

Another lazy day here at just my style. Mondays or pseudo Mondays seem to always be a major catch-up day for me. Labor Day Weekend

Happy Labor Day everyone! I had an incredibly fun filled weekend. Friday started out meeting Delightfully Tacky's Elizabeth for a photo shoot. It was so much fun and she is just as fun and down to earth in person as she is on her blog! Her hair on the other hand is even more impressive in person!!! HA! The photo shoot was fun and completely awkward all at the same time, it's alot different to have a professional photographer with lights and the fixings standing across from you, than your 11 year old daughter!!! The upside to it though is that you don't feel near as awkward when people walk by and see you taking pictures. It was a blast though and I am completely grateful to have been able to have participated in this project with Elizabeth.

The rest of the weekend was spent up in the mountains at our cabin. Our days were filled with family, friends, afternoon naps, campfires, Merlot, blueberry picking and smores.... Good times! I hope that your weekend was a pleasant as mine.

This look is what I would classify as "mommy wear". This type of thing is what I wear when my hot water heater/boiler goes out and is out for TWO WEEKS! Yes this means no hot water.....for TWO WEEKS! No showers, boiling water to do dishes, no laundry, ok so maybe I'm behind the times and didn't know there was such as thing as cold water Tide. Luckily I have family in this town and we've been able to desmellify(not a word but I like it anyways) ourselves every night across town. I bought some cold water Tide and stayed home all day yesterday to tackle the GIGANTIC Mt. Everest looking pile of laundry that was spilling out into the hallway. NOT FUN! I am hoping, praying and crossing every body part that can be crossed that it gets fixed today. On a fashion note...I am in love with short sleeved sweaters.

Thanksgiving was incredibly delicious the other night. I think I have decided that Thanksgiving definitely needs to be celebrated more than once a year. I'm thinking more like every three months. I mean why not...right? The meal is top-notch and in all honesty we as humans have ALOT to be thankful for. Why shouldn't we dedicate more than one day a year to gather those who are most important in your life, sit back, gorge yourself on embarrassing amounts of incredibly comforting food, and reflect on what we have to be thankful for?

My outfit today was crazy comfortable...who needs a waistband the day after Thanksgiving? I hiked up my maxi skirt, belted it with my thrifted obnoxiously red shirt and said Voila! I played with some of the filters for these pics, i really love how they turned out. The only problem is that I rounded the corners and now it look kinda dumb with the squared off black outlines. I tried to fix it but can't. Oh well lesson learned for next time. When scouting a pic location I spotted a mama moose and two babies, I was hoping they'd stick around to be my background but I spooked them and they ran...

Summer has finally decided to make an appearance here in the great north. We have surpassed records of daily consecutive precipitation here this summer. I think we topped out at 32 days! Don't quote me on that though, It was not a fun fact I wanted to remember. The sun is in full force today and I had to take advantage of it in this sweet little romper. I have decided that I feel best in my clothes when I break "the rules". Today I am wearing black and brown and the cut on this romper is ridiculously unflattering, my tush looks about 20 lbs larger than usual and I could be hiding a baby in my belly...I'm definitely not....but I could be if I wanted to though. Anywhoo, I love, love, love it all the same. I have recently been asked what my "personal style" is. This at the time was a tough question for me, and has evoked quite a bit of thought over the past few days and I have come to the conclusion that I am still figuring it out. Thanks to blogging I have found a whole new set of "rules" as in there really aren't any so I'm just having fun with it!

When I look at the pictures I feel as I am looking at comfort clothes, kind of like comfort food but clothes....you get the picture. On any particular day if I don't have the time or energy to put into my daily wear this or some variation of this is what you'll get. I have seen other bloggers refer to an outfit as their "go-to" I guess mine is just sort of an idea...a generalized version of jeans and a sweater will do for me. How about you? What is your go-to?

While out running the last minute school shopping my daughter and I stopped into Famous Footwear. We perused the racks looking for A: a decent pair of running shoes and B: a pair of black flats, both for her. While cruising the clearance racks I spotted a plain pair of black pointed toe pumps for $5! A wardrobe staple ...HELLO! I looked around and also saw the 25% off clearance sign AND the Buy One get One 1/2 Off sign. As if my stroke of luck could get any better in the shoe shopping department? My daughter could only find one of the two items we were shopping for! So long story short....Black pumps...$1.82 including tax!

This was one of those days that I was inspired by a look and then as if something came over me I just added a few odds and ends that absolutely in theory do not go but in the end I ended up staring at myself giddily in the mirror loving what I saw more and more each moment....right down to the crazy spiky hair. Tell me this also happens to all of you....ok maybe I'm just crazy. This eclectic crazy mix of patterns, fabrics, and styles even, felt exactly right. I am this person, I am a crazy mix of all types of things. I love my life and I love living it each day.

Today's outfit is a total copycat of the incredibly stylish LeQuaintrelle. In all fairness I did leave her a comment letting her know this was going to happen and we can't forget about the old sentiment, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I saw this look and gasped, It just looked so comfy yet pulled together! I was right, it was crazy comfortable and I felt feminine and flowy all day long.

I would also like to pause for a second and give a little shout out to my bag. This baby is an oldie but goody. Jeremy bought this for me on Mothers Day years ago and I love it just the same today. I kind of feel like these (I have a small brown hobo also) were the "classic" coach bag. They are in season and very practical and stylish year after year. Don't get me wrong I love some of the large Coach totes and would give my left arm...ok maybe just my baby toe (hey it's still a body part, and anyways I am quite partial to my baby toe) to have one, but these are the no frills kinda classics that will still be in rotation 10 years from now.

So I used the excuse of this new crazy awesome hat I recieved from my daughters yesterday to totally take advantage of "Casual Friday." I woke up dreadfully tired knowing I had a big day ahead, I threw on jeans, a slouchy cape, finger brushed my hair, and topped it all off with my new hat. I also managed to brush my teeth in the midst of that. :) It all came together pretty well I think... I absolutely love those days where you feel casually or unintentionally chic. Where it looks like you didn't spend hours deciding what to wear or fixing your hair and makeup just so, I treasure those days where it just happens naturally!
Today is another special day, it is my second daughters birthday. She is such a treasure. For her day she wanted to go thrifting and get ice cream....awesome I know! We spent the day with my grandma and then celebrated with the rest of the family over dinner and cake! I scored the most fabulous funky sweater also...be looking forward to it! So it's official, I turned thirty. Funny how when you were a kid thirty seemed so old, responsible, and put together. Now as I have surpassed this landmark in age I feel NONE of those things. I still feel like a crazed mess at times and that maybe, just maybe I'll have life figured out by forty...ok yeah right, who am I kidding! High school still feels like yesterday, and I can hardly fathom the fact that I have three kids, one of which is heading into middle school. I suppose the old saying is true, "you are only as old as you feel." I feel young and vibrant, I feel like I want a new adventure around every corner and what feels the best is that I can be those things with the added comfort and safety that I didn't have at age 20. I am looking forward to the next decade and all it has in store for me.

Yesterday was a sad day for Americans, especially Alaskans. Senator Ted Stevens was killed in a small aircraft accident. I felt the need to be somewhat patriotic today. I appreciate all that Senator Stevens did for our state and country. Thank You.

There have been a freakish amount of airplane crashes in our state these last few weeks, beginning with the C-17 that went down on the air force base. Three of these accidents probably made the national news and I personally know three others that are friends or acquaintances. It has been a sad few weeks for the aviation community up here. It hits me a little closer having most of my family own and operate their own small airplanes on a weekly basis. The weather up here this summer has played an integral part in all of this as it has been borderline "fall" weather all summer. We have almost literally had rain EVERY day.

On a lighter note my husband took me and Heidi down to Katmai this past weekend in anticipation of my...GULP.... 30th birthday. It was probably one of the most amazing excursions I have had this year. It was a spectacular 3 hour flight (yes we flew) down there and on the way we must have seen 200+ bears scattered about. We arrived on a beach and decide to camp next to this salmon stream that emptied into the ocean right there. We hiked up stream and photographed many bears right close and the later sat by the fire while they would come mosey down the beach or bluffs behind us. We were even able to lie in our tent and see them fish in the river. Amazing weekend! Thanks Babe!

As mentioned previously my grandparents will be visiting next week. They are traveling up from Alabama which would explain my love for Alabama football! ROLL TIDE!!!! I am so pumped for this upcoming season to start. As you all know there are crazy preparations that must be made in order for visitors to arrive. Yeah....Smack dab in the middle of painting bathrooms and shampooing carpets. I did sneak out of the house for a bit today to hit Dollar Day and scored the most perfect corduroy jacket.(Fall here I come) The print and colors of this maxi are an instant mood lifter don't you think? My husband picked this out for my vacation attire this past winter, it was WAY too hot to wear a floor length dress in Costa Rica but it wears nicely here in Alaska.

The past two evenings I have had the chance to go hiking here locally. I am so blessed to be able to take a 20 minute car ride or a 15 minute plane trip and have the luxury of hiking and goofing around in some of Mother Nature's best wardrobes! Monday night after dinner we were antsy and so we decided to hop in the car and drive to a local hiking trail about 20 minutes south of our home. The entire family went including our very dear friend Heidi. We had a BLAST! Yesterday evening the kiddos were at Nana and Papa's house so Jeremy, Heidi and I decided it would be a good night for a picnic up the Knik Valley. My husband has his personal pilots license and we own a PA-12 which is a slighter larger version of a Super Cub. We hopped in the plane and 15 minutes later we were surrounded by glaciers, mountains, and wild flowers. It was a great way to spend the evening. Not much in personal fashion here but I thought Mother Nature needed a shout out for her fabulous wardrobe.

If I have learned one thing from Fashion blogging, it is that the smallest detail or one more article of clothing or accessory can really fab up an outfit. I had this outfit on this morning without the jacket and I just felt something was missing so I went searching through my closet trial and error style trying different things and ended up with this. I really think it refined the look completely. I also scored on these shoes last week, I found the last pair in my size on clearance for $8! Woo-Hoo!

I was crazy busy this weekend, fishing Friday night, airshow and a movie on Saturday,(I actually spotted Delightfully Tacky in all her fabulousness there, but was to slow to go introduce myself, I lost her in the crowd by the time I could get over to her) Sunday helped a friend move and had a family movie night on the couch.

Last night we flew down to the Kenai River to do some fishing, we didn't return until after midnight. Hubby wakes up at 5:00 am, and being the dutiful wife I am, (HAHAHA) I wake up and fix his lunch and breakfast. I am TIRED today!!!! I have been crazy busy around the house this week too, I am totally and I mean totally cleaning out the kids rooms and getting rid of stuff! I am happy to report that there is not one single item in any of the rooms that I have not touched and organized. This look is definitely more function than fashion but it has a certain look to it that I am loving! Longer sweatshirts are the cats meow in my opinion. This is on of my most comfy sweatshirts, which kinda sounds like an oxymoron to me but you get the picture...Long sweatshirts are RAD! How long has it been since you heard that word? I'm going to bring it back...ok?
Also totally loving the weird looking stain on the bottom.....weird!

So if you havent noticed I have tried my hand at updating the look of my blog. I really love it but I want to make it wider so that I can continue to post my pictures the way I used too. (Three pictures wide at the top of the post) I am exceptionally unwidgety, css, or any of those other words that I seem to be finding mean something in this whole process. Happy July 29th to everyone! What a great day! No particular reason...just sayin'!

I am so excited to be getting back into the swing of things here on just my style. Summer is flying by at a rapid pace and I find myself thinking about the long lists of things that need done before fall arrives. My kids will be beginning school in less than a month..EEEEK! My grandparents will be here for two weeks come August 11th, hot and heavy birthday season, meaning one every week for about two months is quickly approaching. Not to mention all of the camping, fishing, and outdoor adventures that are still to be had. Our summers up here in Alaska are painfully short and so we must survive with little sleep and lots of late night adventures to sustain us through the long winter. I have been having such an amazing summer, it has been cram-jam-packed full of outstanding days! I hope you all are having as much fun as I am!

Last night consisted of my ballroom dancing lessons and then I was treated to a lovely dinner at a new restaurant in town called the Grape Tap. I had been wanting to try it out for a while now. It is in the historic part of town and they refurbished one of the original homes that was in Wasilla. It is such a cute little cottage from the outside, but on the inside they have created such a cozy modern setting. I LOVED it! I imagine it will be the perfect place for a girls night or appetizers and a glass of wine with the hubby. Jeremy took me in celebration of our twelve year anniversary. The food and wine was amazing but the company and conversation was even more so. I am blessed to say that I am more in love today than ever. Love ya babe!

Wow! So how long has it been? Life happens and I'm not gonna lie, I slipped back into a jeans and sweatshirt housewife mama. The weather here in Alaska has been less than super ALL SUMMER LONG and crazy busyness seems to be all around me. Enough excuses already!

Lately I have been feeling frumpy and disheveled, under appreciated and overworked* but you know, it's funny thing how your mood and perspective changes when you are wearing something you love, something that screams, this is me, this is who I am! I began to realize this little gem of knowledge ~~DUH why didn't anybody tell me before, oh wait you probably did.~~ when I really started to miss all of you and the daily regimen of fashion blogging. I started rummaging through the archives of outfits I had put together and I started to "get it". If I dress like a frumpy housewife, I'm going to feel and act like one. Hmmmm... Concept! I am sure I could get really deep and apply this to all sorts of other scenarios in my life, but for now we will stick to fashion. I experimented with my new found revelation and "dressed up Danielle" for about a week. The results were amazing, I felt better, got more done, and the little skip was back in my step.

Yesterday was the first day I documented and boy am I out of practice. I feel like I have to relearn everything about fashion blogging again. I am feeling anxious about what to write, and I couldn't pose for anything, every picture I took either looked completely scary or like I was 12 posing for Great Aunt Sally. Fashion Blogging is truly a form of art. Here's to my new beginning to the blog.

We are finally starting to settle into life here on vacation. Costa Rica is NOTHING like what we are used to or were expecting. We usually travel in Mexico, which we love. Costa Rica has taken a bit of getting used to, we have had to stop and realize that we are thankful to be able to take a vacation together in the first place. That said, we probably will never come back to Costa Rica but we are taking advantage of the special quiet time we are spending with each other. Our mornings are lazy, our afternoons are leisurly, and our evenings are spent chatting away over a glass of wine and ahi. It is it's own kind of paradise. Wardrobe is not to up front in my mind while here but I wanted to check in and say hello anyways.

I am realizing that a tropical wardrobe is not all that exiting. It doesn't take much here! Shorts and a tank is plenty! I have a few sundresses and jumpsuits to throw into the mix, so stay tuned. I was not able to snap a picture of my travel outfit but I took advice from the blogosphere and wore a maxi dress with a thin cardi, and a scarf for warmth and style. It was fabulous...the perfect traveling outfit. I felt totally put together but also very comfortable at the same time. I also wore flip flops and carried a pair of cozy socks with me for the airplane. Perfection I tell ya...perfection!

We are trying to gather our bearings down here, 20 hours of travel, and unknown territory takes a little adjustment. I will post here a bit but if you want to see our trip day by day, adventure by adventure, check out my personal blog as I am updating it daily.

Serious lack of posting going on here at Just my Style. Once again, I have a good excuse. One of these days I will get my head screwed on right and post regularly no matter what is happening in this C-R-A-Z-Y life of mine! My excuse is actually quite exiting....at least for me! My awesome hubbie and I are taking a 17 day vacation to Costa Rica next week....sans KIDS!!! Since we got home from the cabin life just sorta errupted in busyness, my husband is working crazy hours along with the start of the basketball season for my oldest daughter, which we so nicely volunteered to coach..three nights a week! What were we thinking?! Oh yeah...investing time and memories into our kids lives..that's right I almost forgot! Add in a snowmachine race this weekend which equals alot of wrenching in the garage until all hours of the night, and yes the packing and preparations to leave on a jet plane! Whew! I am freaking out a little just typing all of this. Ok on to where you all come in, because of flight schedules we are taking a long layover in Houston, and then visiting my girlfriend in Seattle for a night. I would love to here from any of you who have been to any one of these three destinations. Thrift shopping in Seattle or Houston...WHERE? Costa Rico info anyone? Where to stay and what to do in Houston? Any info would be most appreciated!

**I will have internet while there so I plan to check into Just my Style for a few style posts...beach style! I am also hoping to document the entire trip daily on my personal blog, wackypepperds, which will be updated soon!

I am so sorry I have missed blogging and commenting for a few days. I promise I have good excuses though! I have had a whopper of a week. Let me explain bullet style:

It is December 22nd and we have no Christmas tree.
The reason we have no Christmas tree YET is that we refuse to buy a real one and definately not a fake one.
While out "hunting" a Christmas tree with all the kids and Grammie in the truck....It DIED! The truck, not the tree.....we hadn't cut one yet.
The one and only Saturday hubbie had to work all year was the Saturday the truck died.
I had to call Father in law to come to the rescue us and take Grammie and the kids home.
We ~~tried to fix~~ messed with the truck for two hours, only to finally admit that yes, the fuel pump went out, and yes we were going to have to tow the truck about 15 miles.
I had to drive and tow Father in law in the my truck (never towed before, was ~~pretty nervous~~ terrified)
STILL NO TREE
I am not done with my shopping and not having a truck the week before Christmas is not helping.
Hubbie and I decided that we were going to start early on the ice rink at the lake for Christmas.
We carried a water pump ( 75lbs) through knee deep snow about 50 yards down to the lake only to decide that it was too windy to flood the rink.
On the way back across the ice, I slipped, dropped the HUGE water pump, fell, hit my head, and suffered what I think was probably a concusion.
STILL NO TREE
Tomorrow my sweet, most awesome little brother is going to help me accomplish all my last minute tasks including , tree, presents, and ice rinks. What a guy huh!

My pictures are seriously photoshopped because it was pretty dark out when we snapped these. The colors are different in every single one, so you will have to use your imagination, but they are most like the big picture. Today the days are getting longer so it will only get easier from here to snap a decent pic. My brother took these for me hence the silly, giggly facees. Thanks Brother! He is such a sport and so much fun to be around. He works out of town two weeks at a time and so when he is home we all try to squeeze in as much time with him as possible.

Despite all of these "setbacks" I am still totally smitten with the Christmas Spirit. This year more than ever I am in awe and thankful for the true meaning of Christmas. It is not about all the gifts, decorations, cookies, and making sure everything is just so. Which I have been SO guilty of in past years. This year I want to celebrate family and friends, laughter and smiles, generosity and kindness, cookies don't hurt either, but most of all I'm celebrating the greatest gift ever given or recieved, Jesus Christ. So many years ago my heavenly father sent his son to be born in a manger on a starry night so that I could live with such joy and freedom, and for that I eternally grateful.

It is still snowing...YIPPEE! I am starting to feel like I live in a flour sack. I have decided not to sell my beloved boots. I figure that a deal like that only comes along once in a lifetime.

I finally busted out a version of the thigh high and I am LOVING it! This blogging thing is great...I would not have ever imagined wearing something like this a year ago. I can't wait to see what I'll be wearing next year.

Sadly the dress I was supposed to wear for my husbands Christmas party never arrived. I ended up having to borrow a dress that was not even a fraction of cool that my dress was. I was so bummed I did not document it....SORRY.

It is snowing! It is snowing hard and it has snowed all night AND all day! I am absolutely estatic! I love when it snows, how it builds up on the trees and transforms the city into such a magical place. Everything seems alright in the world when it looks like this. All is peaceful and serene and I just feel romantic and swoony. (If that is a word) You get the picture, I am HAPPY! All of this was compounded doubly when I stopped off at the Younique Boutique (local consignment shop) to peruse quickly and spotted these FAB-U-LOUS Frye boots for a mere $24! I scooped them up and was quickly disapointed when I saw that they were a size 8. One size to big. For $24 I had to buy them, I just had too, I figured I could sell them on ebay and make a few bucks. Imagine my surprise when I got home and slipped my foot in Cinderella style and they fit PERFECT! Oh I adore you thrifting Gods. So now I have the dilemma of sell or not to sell.... I already have two other pair of Frye boots, my closet is getting small! Excuse my scary happy smiles...I can't contain myself.

I had the delightful pleasure of going to the Post Office today! OMGoodness! That place is absolutely ridonkulous! All I can say is thank goodness for online USPS! I waltzed right on by all of those poor people standing in the line that literally wrapped around the corner and into the abyss to drop my prepaid postage packages into the "large package" slot! I did feel a little guilty especially knowing that the postal service gives you a break in price when you do it online! AWESOME!!!! After that I tried but failed to buy my sister in laws Christmas gift and then home to do...of course CHORES! Tonight I will be attending my daughter's first band concert and then the traditional Christmas concert. WEEEEeeeee.....

It seems as though I am supporting the big red bullseye today. I didn't realize it until I started to think about my post for today. Funny how blogging makes you think of what you are wearing in totally different ways. As mentioned in my Bullet style blog the other day, my husbands company Christmas party is Friday. It is a formal event and the ladies go all out. I always look forward to it because as a SAHM I don't get many chances to get all dolled up. Right now I am FREAKING OUT! I browsed and browsed through so many dresses until I narrowed it down to "the one". It was a fairly painful process, I ordered it up, giddy and exited that I had found that perfect dress and even splurged for the postal insurance. It was supposed to be hereYESTERDAY at the latest. I thought, OK Danielle don't freak out it will be here tomorrow (today). I calmly went to the mailbox this afternoon, slipped the key in, opened the door and promptly started FRAEKING OUT! No dress! What am I going to do if it doesn't come???? On top of it all a cold sore popped up on my lip yesterday....UGH this must not be my year. It's gonna come tomorrow...RIGHT???

I had to go put up a bulletin board at the school this morning, then I headed over to the thrift store for Dollar Day. I bought the most fabulous dress today. Look for it on Sunday. Maybe I will have to wear it on Friday. When I got home my mom and I decorated my house for Christmas. (inside and out! I'm pretty handy with a staple gun....not really!!!)

Well, first things first, I have bangs, real bonifide bangs. I went all the way, no ease into it sidebang. What do you think? I'm still on the fence. Some days I wake up and think, OK! I can rock these, and other days all I can think about is how stinking long it is going to take to grow them out. I actually think I really like them but they just aren't fitting into my schedule, meaning I actually have to put forth effort EVERY morning in order for me not to look like Alfalfa. Oh well...Enough hair talk. Isn't my blouse fun? The print is so...I'm not sure what, but cool. I bought it at this little consignment shop in town called Younique Boutique. I took in a large tub of clothes and have been having a jolly time perusing every week for new treasures knowing that it won't cost me a dime! I also bought these boots there. Some of you may have noticed my short absence to the blogosphere. I apologize. It has become increasingly difficult to keep it up. The thoughts of quitting my daily regimen of pics and posts has even flitted through my mind.....BUT I just can't do it! I miss it and all of you lovely readers TOO much, and so I will make sure to do better! What has happened in the last few weeks you ask? Let me see if I can do a quick bullet style catch up.....

I cut my hair....It is short and layered with bangs and I don't think I really like them.
I ordered an extra fabulous dress for my husbands company Christmas party next week! Can't wait to show you, just my style: formal wear!
Ate three Thanksgiving meals....I am still dreaming of mashed potatoes and pecan pie.
It rained here and I'm bitter about it! ( December in Alaska should be snow!)
I made homeade corn dogs...baked. They were YUMMY!
My husband and I tried our hand at making an ice rink on the lake that his grandma lives on....it is WAY harder than you would think....TRUST ME! (the kids haven't skated yet) We even had major equipment like plow trucks, large water pumps and such..... haven't given up though, maybe the kids will get to skate by Christmas.
Watched ALABAMA defeat Auburn! ROLL TIDE!!!! Can't wait for Saturday....SEC Championship!!! FUN FACT: huge football fan.
Scored a few fun items at the thrift shops....more on that later!
Booked two tickets to Costa Rica in January. Notice I only said two tickets and NOT five...Husband and I are going alone. Any of you been there? Travel tips please!!!
I bought all the ingredients to make my first attempt at whoopie pies....today's project, I'll let you know how it goes
More later...... the kiddos are starting to wake up and they usually want breakfast or something.

It is so beautiful here right now, clear blue skies against the magnificent white capped mountains is just breathtaking. Clear blue skies in the winter also means.... COLD... DANG COLD! Cold to the tune of sub-zero temperatures. BRRRR........
I was looking at my calendar last night (choosing vacation dates!!! YAY) and the fact that Thankgiving is only two weeks away came to my attention. HOLY MOLY!!! I better get my butt in gear. I want to have all of my Christmas shopping done and wrapped by the end of the month so that I can enjoy the Christmas season stress free! Wow...doesn't that sound nice? I seem to always procrastinate and everything turns into a giant checklist that has to be done instead of taking the time to enjoy it.

Look who's got a new pair of boots! After repeatedly seeing Kyla rock her boots over at Blue Collar Catwalk I decided that I needed some....yes needed! So IN LOVE with these boots, everything that Kyla said about them is true. They are incredibly comfy and I'm totally obsessed! I am quite confident that you'll get tired of seeing them on my lovely little legs. In this -10 below weather they keep my legs nice and toasty warm while wearing skirts and dresses too!

My 11 yr old daughter styled this entire outfit...it was all her, I wish I could take the credit because I LOVE it, but it was all her!

The great closet cleanout of 2009 is underway, I cleaned out and took a GIANT tub of clothes to the consignment shop yesterday. I can't wait to get my hands on some new loot! The jeans and sweater look is tired and old...but there is not much else I can wear when it is snowing like a bandit and there is 4 inches of fresh snow on the ground. Comfort and practicality take priority. Thank goodness for accessories! I am so exited to FINALLY have some snow! The kids went sledding in the backyard yesterday, came in with rosy red cheeks and sipped hot cocoa...Ahhhhh...life is better!

SNOW!!!!WE FINALLY HAVE SNOW!!!! November 9th and we finally get snow in ALASKA...what is happening? I was starting to reaaly get kinda irked. I knew that a long drawn out warm fall season was great and that I should be trying to enjoy extra fall activities but the inner me, the part that has lived here all her life and has always gotten snow in late September to early October was FREAKING OUT! It threw my whole little internal clock off and I didn't know what to do. Now I do and I'm going to make homemade snow-cream for desert tonight, and possibly take my kids sledding tomorrow! WEEEEEEE!

In fashion news....not much...had to wear the Uggs again, and this sweater was my first thrifted item ever bought, aren't the little puff balls fabulous!

I am absolutely terrible at my rights and lefts. I get them mixed up ALL the time and can't for the life of me figure them out in a split second. When someone gives me a right or left command it takes me at least two seconds to process and head that direction!
I grew up at the dirtbike track, my dad was a racer, and I was carted out to the races evey weekend since I was a mere two DAYS old. The tradition continues or is in my blood so to speak. My brother now races snowmobiles under a factory Yamaha sponsorship, my husband races recreationally and as of last year for the first time I did! It was a blast and I am hoping to again this year.. here is a picture of me to aid your imagination.

I am a terrible sweetsaholic, and I use that term in the most serious form, I have been known to eat large undisclosed amounts of frosting out of the can with only my fingers. Just typing that makes me feel dirty... :)
I live in somewhat of a small town and almost my entire family on BOTH my husbands side and mine live here also. That includes my parents, his parents, his grandmother, my brother and family, his sister and family, his older brother and family live in Anchorage (about 40 miles away) and until recently his other brother lived here as well. They now live in Washington. Family gatherings are HUGE as we have 14 grandchildren on his side of the family and four on mine. It is such a blessing to have everyone around as well as the babysitter factor! I have NEVER had to pay for babysitting! WOO-HOO!
My husband and I met in sixth grade, we sat beside each other all year long and I was absolutely and totally smitten from that point on. I knew there was no one else for me. We ended up dating in high school, and got married shortly after. 11 years of marriage and 3 kiddos later I am still smitten!
I used to eat pickle and mustard sandwiches as a kid...GROSS!
I would rather hike 10 miles through the mountains in the rain with a 15lb pack on my back than bake something from scratch, Not much of a domestic goddess here.

It seems as though I am easing myself into the thigh high arena. I wore them here but chose to hide the fact. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the look, both in boots and socks but have yet to muster the courage to don one or the other. I absolutely adore the tights, cutoffs, tall socks and boots look but really, should a mama of three be wearing that? I question myself but yet am so drawn to the thigh high.

The weather here has been totally insane this year! We have NO SNOW!!! It is November 2nd and we have no snow..none...nada...zilch! It has even been so warm here that the lakes and creeks are barely frozen! I HATE IT!!! It is ugly, brown and stark here. Winter is usually in full swing by now. Ugh.... To spruce up my mood I decided to put a litle springy spin on the day.

Hey! Look who decided to blog again! Man o man have I been busy....not really sure doing what exactly, but extremely busy. I sure missed you all and decided that November 1st was a great day to make my reappearance in blogland.

Simple, simple, simple was all I was thinking this morning after two days of Halloween festivities....I am exhausted! We had a great day yesterday, every year my parents host an annual all family pumpkin carving day. We have all been so busy lately that we ended up not being able to do it until Halloween! It worked out great though and we made a whole day of it. Carving began at 11:00 am, slight intermission at lunch time for seafood chowder, (Yum!) and then of course there was the all day grazing of the popcorn balls, caramel corn, pumpkin shaped sugar cookies, pumkin bread, and pumpkin (yep you guessed it!) PIE!!! After six pumpkins were carved and we were stuffed beyond stuffed, it was time to get the kiddos dressed and go trick or treating around the block! It was SOOOOO cold!!!! We breed tough kids up here in AK, if they weren't tough they wouldn't be able to go out and collect candy at thirty degrees and 30 mph winds....seriously! We had a blast though and it was so much fun to be able to trick or treat the same houses that I did as a kid along with my mom, brother, and our kids!

***Before you curse me for being a terrible irresponsible mother, we did drive in a warm toasty car from house to house, the kids LOVED IT, and that is just how it is here. I tromped through feet of snow and icy driveways every year as a kid... LOVED IT and survived!

With Fall having been here for a bit and winter knocking on the door I am having a hard time with my wardrobe. I enter my closet wanting to create something that I LOVE and will make me feel confident and sassy, and lately I just can't seem to connect the two.....I blame this on all of you of course! I think my style has evolved and changed (for the better) over the course of this blog which was mainly summer. My usual winter staples of jeans and a sweater are just not cutting it anymore, YEAH!!!! The downside is that I can't just go out and buy a new wardrobe...sad face. Officially declaring this the great closet cleanout of 2009, consign as much as possible, become more creative with the pieces that I do LOVE and see where it gets me.

I did LOVE this little number I threw on this morning. I wore this dress in early fall and decided to try a winter take on it. Mixed it up with the brown and black and brought it down to a casual level with the denim. I couldn't decide on what to do with the scarf and just kept tying knots, ended up really liking the necklace vibe.

This outfit consists of two pieces in my closet that I've had for a while but have had a hard time putting them into rotation. I have only worn them each once, here and here. Who knew that if paired together I would LOVE it! I am pleased with how this matches but really doesn't. The floatiness of this skress (skirt/dress) makes me smile. I think it would make a fantastic sundress on a beach somewhere tropical, and of course a cocktail with an umbrella in it in hand. Hmmmmmm......Alaska Airlines website is only a click away...
