Closet Casualty......

Some of you may have noticed my absence from the blogosphere this past week. It all started on Saturday when I cleaned the house from top to bottom...SPOTLESS! My dear husband flew home from the cabin to pick us all up for the long weekend. I progammed the Roomba, (LOVE that thing) locked the house, and was feeling awesome about coming home on Monday night to a perfectly clean house! (I even washed all of my bedding so we could sleep in a fresh bed when we got home!) Fast forward through a lovely and relaxing Labor Day weekend and we find ourselves back home basking in the spotlessness of the house.....until I walked into my bedroom and  see THIS that is....

Have no fear though, my little brother came over and helped me reconstruct my closet to it's original state. As far as wardrobe was concerned I had to live in whatever was on top of the heap, so not much creativity was involved! I have also been really tapped of energy this week and so I took my closet casualty as a sign to take the week off! Posting will resume soon.....until then, HAVE FUN!

Here is this vest's maiden voyage in my possesion. I am enthusiastically pleased with the results. The possibilities for this vest are endless!

Before I took photos last night,(which I am extremely happy with) I felt like a tornado chaser or something along those lines. I knew what kind of pics I wanted to shoot with this outfit, and so I waited for the sun to start setting. I had a location in mind but when we got there it wasn't what I had pictured, the sun wasn't right..... So we went on a chase for the perfect location, while trying to beat the sun! It was kinda funny. When we spotted the place and took a few test pics, it was still like we were trying to beat the clock. Usually we stop and look through what we've shot already, discuss, move, and adjust, but not last night, we just kept shooting because the sun was disapearing fast!!! I suppose I need to scout locations a little better!

Not much happening today, finished up my filing...YAY! I am trying out flipping the large photo to the bottom of the post and leave my triple pose pics as-is. The middle picture in these just cracks me up!!! What are my eyebrows doing? Actually I know what they're doing, anyone who knows me well knows what these eyebrows are doing and it really isn't good. I'm just not quite sure how they lurked into my fashion blog photos......Hmmmmmm.... Now that I think about it we were parked on the side of the road with two small children strapped into the truck screaming and crying for Mama and Nana at the top of their lungs, or it could have been the people who kept driving by extra slow and jerking their heads out of their necks as if they were witnessing a terrible car accident(haven't you ever seen someone taking picture of themselves over and over again in differnt poses?), or maybe it was just that the wind kept blowing my hair all crazy....Who knows! Let's just call them funny, crazy lurking eyebrows and call it good.

Nifty Thrifty Wednesday!

If I had to leave the  blogosphere tomorrow, the most valuble lesson I would take away from it would be that thrifting is FABULOUS! Before starting just my style I was a pretty avid "sale/ebay shopper", I prided myself on never paying full price for anything. Thrifting has brought me to the next level and quite frankly I've gotten some of my favorite additions via thrifting.

Thrifting enables me a few things:
  • Get my weekly shopping fix CHEAP!!
  • Use my imagination and creativity when shopping for clothes.
  • Have my own personal unique wardrobe, full of things from many different eras.
  • Did I mention it was CHEAP?
One of the local thrift stores here in town has Wednesday  Dollar Day, all adult clothing is marked down to $1 and childrens clothing is $.50! Isn't that magnificent!!!!
Every Wednesday I will post my thrifty finds here with my thoughts about whether I should leave them as-is, if they require a little DIY action, or if I should have left it hanging on the rack! I fall helplessly short in the DIY category and I am making it a goal in the next 100 posts to get better at it. It is my hope that all of you DIY guru's will help me in this quest by offering up your insane creativity reguarding dye, alterations, embellishing, and all that other fun stuff I know NOTHING about!

With all that said, Here are my finds for the week. I was so pumped to be able to find blazers that actually fit me. All summer I've been looking for some and until now they have all been sz 14 or 2XL! The burgandy will be perfect for that casual dress up the jeans afternoon, and the cream one with the awesome buttons an roll-up sleeves...I'm in love! My thoughts are that the blazers and the sweater vest are wear as-is items, (unless you all have better ideas) but the dress is in need of some DIY! I immediately was drawn to the simple pattern and the vintage look and feel it has. I am not sure about the length of the sleeves or the length of the skirt....what do you think?

TOTAL SPENT:  $4

Whatcha Think? Ideas please!!!!

100th post!!!!!

This post will be my 100th post. I never thought I would even last this long in the fashion blog world, nor did I think people would actually read this. It just started out as as something my daughter and I could do together, sort of a mothers attempt to bond. Now after 100 posts it has turned into so much more than that. I have become a more confident person inside and out,  learning many lessons about myself, we could call it a period of self discovery, whether it is directly or indirectly due to this blog I don't know. I do know however that it has become part of my regular day and I enjoy it greatly. I am loving getting to know all of you and your kind words have definately put a smile on my face when most needed. Thank You! I look forward to meeting more of you and cultivating the friendships that are already started.
I'm getting a little tired of the same old thing day after day and which brings me to the purpose of this post. I think this blog needs a little spicing up for at least the next 100. I have a few ideas in mind, one of which will make it's first appearance later today, (check back later) but I wanted to ask you what you thought.
  • What do you like about my just my style?
  • What do you dislike about just my style?
  • Do you like the new large lead photo in the last post?
  • What kind of backdrops do you like best?
  • Quotes or titles?
  • Any other input you think would make just my style a better place to visit?
Thank you....may the next 100 be even better!
Danielle

Another dreary day, and I was inside trying to catch up and re-organize my filing system...Fun I know. I labored in my comfies but when I had to pry myself away pick kids up from school I slipped on the sweater and necklaces to spice up the leggings a bit. As I was reaching for my shoes, I was drawn to my beloved Uggs, it is September after all. I know, I know, they're not the most fashionable things and I have even seen other fashion bloggers mock them but, (excuse coming) I live in Alaska where snow and ice cover the ground for seven months of the year and people like me just sorta kinda fall in love with the furry ugliness that is called Uggs. So there I'm out of the closet....I LOVE my Uggs!

My pictures are seriously dark, dark like I have no hair dark, but there is a good reason. Ok maybe not a good reason more like an excuse. Are you ready for it...well the simple truth is that I was too busy today and just sorta forgot! After I put the kids to bed I realized my blunder and silent arguments with myself began......
  • It is just a silly fashion blog,  I will just skip tomorrows post.....
  • I CAN'T skip a day!!!!!
  • I could take two sets of pics tomorrow......
  • No, that just takes way to much time.....
  • Skip a day....
  • I CAN"T skip a day....
  • I know!!!!! I will just go put my clothes back on, fluff up my hair, put a little lip gloss on, and drag my daughter out of bed to take pics AFTER her bedtime, outside in the DARK!!!!
Yes, I know you all are thinking did she really just admit that? Maybe I have a problem, is there such a thing as Bloggers Anonymous...Seriously!
